Stains really do talk, don’t they? They say things like, “Klutz,” “Slow down,” “Butterfingers,” “Use a napkin, next time,” “Don’t you know you should never wear a white shirt when you eat Italian?” The worst stains can scream, “Ruined!”

Sin leaves much more embarrassing, shameful, relationship-ending, poor-choice kinds of stains; stains from poor judgment, stains from selfish behavior, stains from illicit, unbridled passions. And at there very worst, they scream out, “Ruined! Don’t bother trying to clean this up. It’s hopeless. Nothing gets this out. Cover it up, but forget about removing it.”

Christmas tolls a different message. Christmas offers to redeem us from the failures that could ruin us.

Centuries before Isaiah communicated God’s promise of thorough cleansing from sin, King David desperately hoped for the same.

White Christmases are really more supernatural than natural. The coming of Jesus invites you and me to come to Him for forgiveness, cleansing, and new life born-again in purity and righteousness. In Jesus, God gives us a new identity rooted in the reality of Christmas.

Jesus, Our Saving King will return! Readiness is more than a simple ascribing to the belief that Jesus will come again. It is to live with expectation and to value and love what He values and loves. It is to know His heart, to align with His will, to tell others of His coming. It is to hear His call to a harvest field of lost people and bring them into the Kingdom. With faithfulness comes the reward of His blessing and His kingdom. And our faithfulness to trust him will be thoroughly tested by a culture around us that scoffs.
